We invite you to explore our beliefs and join us in our pursuit of living out our faith in boldness and passion.
In Catholicism, a sacrament is a sacred rite or ritual instituted by Jesus Christ that visibly signifies and confers God's grace. These outward signs, such as water in baptism or bread and wine in the Eucharist, point to an invisible reality: God's saving presence and action in the lives of believers. The seven sacraments are considered channels through which God's grace is dispensed to the faithful.
We believe the Eucharist is the source and summit of our Christian life. The Mass is the central act of Catholic worship, where bread and wine become the actual Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ, uniting believers with Jesus and with one another. We believe that the Mass is both the only perfect sacrifice of Christ on the cross and an opportunity to receive Christ in communion, as He commanded us to do at the Last Supper: “Do this in memory of me.” We also believe in the value and beauty of Eucharistic adoration, where we adore Jesus’ sacred body under the appearance of ordinary bread.
We believe that both Holy Scripture and Sacred Tradition guide our Catholic faith. Both are interpreted for today’s catholic under the guidance of the Holy Spirit as interpreted through the teaching authority of the Pope and bishops in union with him.
We believe in communion with God through prayer. Prayer is essential for developing a personal relationship with God, and Catholics are called to pray individually and as a community, with Mary and the saints as intercessors who pray for us.
We believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic church. We believe that Christ founded the Catholic church through the twelve apostles, who are the predecessors of the bishops today. Here at St. Alexander, we worship in the Roman Catholic tradition and follow the Novus Ordo Mass as promulgated by the church since Vatican II.
We believe in the resurrection of the body and eternal life after death. We believe in heaven, hell and purgatory, where souls go to heaven (eternal union with God), hell (eternal separation from God), or purgatory (purification before heaven), based on their relationship with God and how they lived their earthly life. The core teaching of the Catholic Faith about the afterlife is based on belief in the divinity of Christ and personal redemption by uniting our lives to Jesus Christ through His death on the cross.
