Messages of Hope Speaker Series - The MESSAGES OF HOPE Speaker Series is a special Jubilee 2025 initiative designed to engage those living in the Diocese of St. Catharines to learn about hope, and together, reflect and explore ways to restore a climate of hope in our world that desperately yearns for it.
Each month, in venues around the diocese, a speaker has been invited to give a talk that explores some messages and themes that Pope Francis highlighted in this Jubilee’s Bull of Indiction - SPES NON CONFUNDIT: Hope does not disappoint.

SPES NON CONFUNDIT: Hope does not disappoint. Rev. Rico Passero, pastor of St. Joseph’s Church in Grimsby and podcast host of God’s Playbook will be the second featured speaker in this Jubilee’s Messages of Hope Series.
He will be reflecting on ‘Hope for Today’ on February 24, 2025 at 7:00 pm at the Catholic Centre, 3400 Merrittville Highway, Thorold.

The 2025 Jubilee of Hope will officially open on December 24, 2024, with Pope Francis opening the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
In his Bull of Indiction “Spes Non Confundit”, Pope Francis decreed that, “…on Sunday, December 29, 2024, in every cathedral and co-cathedral, diocesan bishops are to celebrate Holy Mass as the solemn opening of the Jubilee Year…”.
In our diocese, Bishop Gerard Bergie will celebrate Mass at 2:00pm at the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Alexandria (3 Lyman Street, St. Catharines) Sunday, December 29, 2024, The Feast of The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, as the solemn opening of the Jubilee Year.
All parishioners are encouraged and welcome to attend.
The opening Mass of the 2025 Jubilee Year will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Alexandria (3 Lyman Street, St. Catharines) on Sunday, December 29, 2024 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon by His Excellency, Bishop Gerard Bergie. Please plan to attend this Mass as we begin our journey as “Pilgrims of Hope”.
The SAINTCD Jubilee 2025 Primer Workshop – Pilgrims of Hope
Terri Pauco will be facilitating a workshop for pastors, staff, volunteer parish leaders, and members of Catholic organizations and associations who are interested in learning more about the Jubilee Year and the diocese’s plans to promote it. During the workshop, participants will explore resources and brainstorm how Jubilee themes and activities, especially the concept of pilgrimage and obtaining its plenary indulgence, might be incorporated into existing parish and lay association plans for 2025. A Jubilee Year-at-a Glance will be shared and the local pilgrimage sites will be identified.
The workshop will be offered four times, twice in-person and twice virtually, to encourage good participation.
