Pastor's Corner

for December 1, 2024 - 1st Sunday of Advent

This weekend marks the beginning of the first Sunday of Advent. As we prepare for the arrival of Jesus at Christmas, it is also a time to prepare our hearts and souls. As followers of Jesus, a meaningful way to do this is by following His teachings. Here is a reminder of our path to discipleship, represented by the acronym STEPS:

“S” Service: Consider helping your loved ones, contributing, offering assistance, or giving to those in need.

“T” Tithing: We appreciate everyone who has completed our yearly faith commitment form. Your generosity is valued. Additional forms are available at the back of the church for those who wish to participate.

“E” Engage in Christian Community: Looking ahead to Lent next year, we hope all parishioners will join us for six weeks of small group meetings. We have ordered 500 copies of "Rebuilt Faith" by Fr. Michael White and Tom Corcoran. To facilitate this, we need hosts for each small group (6-8 people per group). If you feel called to lead a group next Lent, please let us know. Training and orientation will be provided, and an information session will be held on Monday, December 16th at 7:00 pm.

“P” Practice Prayer and Sacraments: Consider making this Advent special by incorporating additional prayers into your daily routine.

“S” Share Your Faith: Christmas is an excellent opportunity to invite a friend to visit our parish. We will distribute St. Alexander wristbands at Mass, following the homily, as we did last year.

Also, please click the link below if you and your family would like to light our advent wreath and bring up the offertory gifts for our weekend Masses. You will light the advent wreath after the greeting and opening hymn and bring up the offertory after the intercessions.

"God our heavenly Father, thank you for the clear instruction your Son, Jesus, gave so that I might grow in my love for you and others. May I honour you today by loving the people around me. In Jesus' name, Amen."
